Hands-On Experiment
BOTTLE ROCKET EXTRAVAGANZA!! For our hands-on experiment for this unit, we are going to be constructing 2-liter bottle rockets! In groups of 3, you will have approximately 30 minutes to plan with your group on how you are going to construct your rocket and will have to turn in a project proposal. You will have TWO full class periods to complete construction. If I find that many people need another day to complete the construction then I will postpone the launching another day. We will do all of our testing in one class period (weather permitting). We will take measurements of fly time and distance from the start point.
You will be responsible for bringing your own materials for the rocket, except for the pump which I will supply. All of the materials are basic and do not have to be brand-new. Anything you think would work for part of your rocket is fair game; however, you cannot use anything that will give you an unfair advantage, for example a device that would give your rocket more air time that is not a parachute or anything but the water pressure that will allow lift.
HELP EACH OTHER! There will be bonus points awarded to the following categories: best appearance/name, most air time, and least distance from launch point.
Below, I have attached a worksheet for you all that is labeled student instructions. These are your guidelines WITHOUT DIAGRAMS and will have copies of them WITH DIAGRAMS available in class that will stay in class. If you would like to print your own copy feel free; however, this is not necessary. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or post them on the forum. I have also posted a Youtube video of an example of some advanced rockets.
